Samuel Ekunyan, Backend Developer and Bot Builder

Backend Developer & Bot Builder.
I build the systems and automations your business actually needs.

Node.js APIs · Automation Bots · Web Automation · Telegram Bots · WhatsApp Bots · Slack & Discord Bots · Laravel Platforms · Workflow Automation · Tech Project Management

I have shipped fullstack platforms from blank page to production, built bots that handle thousands of automated interactions daily, architected REST APIs consumed by web and mobile apps, and managed tech teams delivering real results for clients across Nigeria, Australia, and beyond. I do not just write code. I own the outcome from first line to final deployment.

Samuel Ekunyan, Node.js backend developer, bot builder, and automation engineer based in Lagos

Builder. Advocate. Catalyst.

Backend developer. Bot engineer. Tech PM. I do all three, and I do them in production, not in theory.

My work covers three areas that usually require three different people. First: backend development. I build Node.js APIs, REST endpoints, webhook handlers, automation workers, and server-side logic that keeps products running after the UI is closed. I also build on Laravel for structured business systems and WordPress for content platforms that clients can own.

Second: bots and automation. I build bots for any platform: Telegram, WhatsApp, Slack, Discord, web browsers, or custom webhooks. These are not simple reply bots. They handle order processing, customer support flows, notification pipelines, data collection, report generation, lead capture, appointment booking, payment confirmations, and any business process that should not require a human to trigger it manually. If a workflow is repetitive and rule-based, I automate it.

Third: tech project management. I have coordinated engineering teams, managed client delivery for an Australian digital agency from Lagos, scoped projects that did not blow up, and built the accountability systems that keep distributed teams shipping. I speak both the technical language and the business language, which means I can sit between a developer and a founder and translate for both.

I also train developers. Not with slides and theory, but with real problems, honest feedback, and guidance grounded in actual production experience.

What I Do

What I build and how I can help your business.

01

Node.js Backend Development

I build the server-side systems your product runs on. REST APIs, GraphQL endpoints, webhook handlers, background workers, event-driven architecture, third-party integrations, and the database logic behind real applications. Node.js with Express, Fastify, or raw http depending on what the system needs. Built for production, not just for demos.

02

Bot Development for Any Platform

I build bots that automate real business operations across any platform. Telegram bots, WhatsApp bots, Slack bots, Discord bots, web automation bots, browser automation using Puppeteer and Playwright, API-triggered bots, and scheduled automation workers. Use cases include customer support automation, lead qualification, appointment booking, order notifications, payment confirmations, internal team alerts, data scraping, report generation, and any process that runs better without a human triggering it every time.

03

Workflow & Business Automation

I analyse the repetitive manual work inside a business and replace it with systems that run automatically. Zapier-style custom pipelines built in Node.js, scheduled tasks, data sync between platforms, automated reporting, notification systems, and integration glue between tools your team already uses. The goal is always the same: fewer manual steps, fewer errors, more time for the work that actually requires a human.

04

Laravel & WordPress Platform Development

I build structured business platforms on Laravel: authentication systems, admin dashboards, role-based access, database-backed workflows, client portals, and APIs. For content-heavy businesses, I use WordPress as a serious backend: custom post types, REST API exposure, client-editable publishing flows, and SEO-ready architecture. Both stacks are chosen based on what the business actually needs, not what is trending.

05

Tech Project Management

I manage tech projects end to end. Scoping work so it does not expand into chaos. Sprint planning and tracking. Client communication that keeps expectations honest. Managing developers without micromanaging them. Building the daily accountability systems that keep remote and distributed teams delivering consistently. I have done this for a Sydney-based digital agency from Lagos and for multiple product teams simultaneously. I understand both the technical and the business side of delivery.

06

Tech Consulting & Developer Training

I advise founders and companies on technical decisions: which stack to use, how to scope the build, when to hire, what to automate, and what to leave alone. For developers, I offer direct mentorship grounded in real experience, not course content. I work with people finding their footing in tech and those levelling up from junior to mid and mid to senior. Practical. Honest. No theory that does not connect to real work.

Stack

Tools I use when the product has to survive real users.

My primary stack is Node.js and Express for backend systems and bot engines, Laravel for structured business platforms, Vue.js for product interfaces, MySQL for relational data design, WordPress for content systems, and JavaScript across every layer of the build. For bot and automation work I use the Telegram Bot API, WhatsApp Business API, Puppeteer, Playwright, and platform webhooks. I use these in real production systems, not in tutorials or side projects that never shipped.

Selected Work

Selected work, built in production, used by real people.

I have built fullstack event platforms, media company backends, automation systems for businesses, and the coordination infrastructure for an Australian digital agency, all live, all with real users, all shipped without shortcuts.

Writing

Writing: the honest version of the work.

Notes on backend development, bot building, automation engineering, project management, and building a tech career without the polished version of events.

JAN 2026

The honest route into tech

For beginners who keep seeing polished success stories but need a real map: what to learn, what to ignore, and how to keep going when the path feels slow.

DEC 2025

Before you automate, understand the work

Automation fails when it copies confusion. This is my process for studying the human workflow before I turn it into a bot, API, or dashboard.

NOV 2025

Shipping is a leadership skill

The difference between a busy team and a shipping team is usually rhythm, ownership, and the courage to make the next decision clear.
